Act 11 Voodoo Child 21
Voids, for the love of Ginji and THAT disk.
“I don’t believe it,” says Makubex, “the data that is being sent from Sakura, the calorific value
and mass that has been analysed indicates that der Henker does not exist. Also, whenever Ginji-san attacks the Babylon Clock
ticks down more quickly.” It seems this is the way in which the “history” that is written in the Archives
is being amended. Makubex wonders what or who could be doing this. Of course, it is clear to us readers that it is Ban’s
mean-arse daddy, der Kaiser. Back to the Infernal Dome then. The announcer comments that Ginji’s attacks are not
stopping and if anything becoming more violent. Maria runs off, saying that things are not good. Even Akabane says, “Dear
me, it seems that Raitei’s power can not be stopped.” Down in the cells, Ban’s guards are complaining
about how noisy the fights are. One of them comments that Ginji is really savage and that the fighters in the Queen’s
Cup tournament are monsters. He hopes they don’t do too much damage to the Underground Dome. Behind them, Ban summons
Asclepius and rids himself of the handcuffs that were holding him. He says it is not good that Ginji is in that place, to
which the guards respond by warning him that he is not allowed to leave until the battle is over and if he violates this rule
he will be shot. Well, never one to do as he’s told Ban reaches for the bars and, oh dear, the guards shoot him. Blood
splat blood splat blood splat. The picture below is more blood splatting as Gini/Raitei is impaled by what I can only describe
as a rather long horn protruding from der Henker. The commentator announces in surprise that it seems as though Raitei’s
power is declining and tells us all, oh so helpfully, that Amano Ginji’s body has been pierced by der Henker. Kazuki
and Toshiki on the sidelines proclaim their surprise also that Raitei’s power is falling. Ginji/Raitei release another
burst of energy which seems to just be swallowed up by der Henker’s body which looks like some kind of black hole. Ginji/Raitei
wonders what the hell’s going on. The commentator announces that der Henker seems to have expanded the space within
himself. Kagami, standing next to der Kaiser, joins me in wondering if it’s some kind of black hole. Der Kaiser replies
that it is a “sacrificial alter”. He explains that his purpose is to change the history of Mugenjou as it is written
using the Archives, and for the sake of this Raitei will be a sacrifice. “A sacrifice to end that existence,”
he says, “That is the destiny of those who inherited the name GetBackers.” Then he thinks, “You could never
accept it, could you…Paul.” And so to the Honkey Tonk where Natsumi comments that she things the lightening
from earlier was more fierce. Rena wonders what this means is happening to Ginji. For his part, Paul starts singing something
about “66 fathers lined up in a row” (no idea what this is supposed to mean). He opens the till and low and behold
there is that disk. Rena wonders what the disk is as Paul fishes around under the counter to find his MO drive. She asks Natsumi
who explains that a while before a customer game and gave it to Paul and she doesn’t know anything else about it but
she was told not to say anything of the matter. At which point Paul reveries about Teshimine saying something about the disk
being important to Ginji and Ban’s “freedom” to live as they do now. And then Teshimine goes on that if
Ginji comes back safely, Paul should tell him that the time he spent with Ginji was the most fun of his life (awwww). So,
Paul is going to use the disk. Natsumi asks what it’s for to which Paul replies, “In a word, it’s a computer
virus.” Natsumi and Rena react angrily, telling Paul such things are not good. Paul tells them they are wrong, it’s
different from that but he can’t explain. Anyway, Paul doesn’t seem to be able to connect when Hevn shows up,
shoving her bosom into Paul’s face. “What are you doing?” she asks, “Can’t connect to the system?”
Paul, somewhat surprised, asks Hevn why she didn’t go home. Hevn tells him that she saw what was going on with Mugenjou
and felt responsible for giving the GetBackers the job which she thinks must have something to do with it. It seems Hevn is
pretty good with computers because she quickly gets into the system and Paul asks her to send all the contents of the disk
to the Mugenjou network. Hevn asks the address and Paul tells her to send it to Makubex’s Master System, then asks her
not to ask him the reason. So she sends it and Paul apologises to Teshimine for using his “trump card”, but seeing
as it is for Ginji’s sake he thinks Teshimine will not mind. He hopes that Makubex will be able to help Ginji. Back
in Mugenjou and Emishi is wondering what’s going on. Makubex explains that Raitei’s power is being drawn from
Mugenjou to the Underworld and is using it against der Henker. They then have a discussion about whether Mugenjou’s
power is unlimited or not and where all that power Raitei is drawing on is going to. And so starts an extremely long spiel
about voids and how if no particles exist in space then that space doesn’t really exist. But it seems that in the Underground
fighting arena such “voids” do exist. (I’m with Emishi here; “What? That’s complicated…”
he says.) But Makubex isn’t finished. He says that der Henker is such a “void”. “Into the blackness
of that void, the energy Ginji-san sends out is swallowed,” he states. To emphasise this point, back in the Arena Ginji/Raitei
is looking a bit tired. Der Henker asks him what’s wrong and should they finish. Ginji/Raitei replies with a big burst
of electricity. Makubex explains that the energy that Raitei is drawing from Mugenjou will eventually crash the Archives which
contain Mugenjou’s system. Makubex thinks that someone anticipated this turn of events and that it is a mistake for
Raitei to draw more energy as the “void” merely absorbs the energy. Emishi is surprised and Makubex says his attempts
to stop it are coming to nothing, then he realizes that the “quantity of energy of Mugenjou itself has changed”
and that the energy which Raitei is drawing from Mugenjou which is being absorbed by the “void” is all going to
the Beltline. An e-mail then arrives, to which Emishi is a bit annoyed that someone would be mailing them at a time like
this but Makubex sees that the mail is from the Honkey Tonk and asks Emishi to forward the mail to him. When Makubex opens
the mail, he finds a file with Teshimine’s name on it. He tells Emishi how Kazuki told him that the “Honkey Tonk’s
storekeeper” was looking for Teshimine. He thinks, “My idea must be correct…for Ginji…” In
the arena, Raitei/Ginji is letting his electricity loose like crazy. All the onlookers are getting a bit frazzled. Kagami,
continuing to watch the ongoing spectacle with der Kaiser on a balcony above, wonders if this will not blow his own [systems?]
out. Der Kaiser seems unconcerned and just tells Kagami (who also doesn’t look at all worried, but rather is smiling
sweetly) to watch carefully as Mugenjou’s main system crashes at which time victory will be his and Raitei’s part
will be over. “In 5 seconds…” he says, “…4…” (Let’s play spot the glaring
resemblance to the Mugenjou arc here, shall we.) Now we see Maria saying sorry to some guards she just knocked out as she
makes her way to where Ban is being held, fearing for Ginji and thinking that Ban is the only one who can communicate with
Ginji like this. But when she gets to his cell she finds something that looks like a scene from Jurassic Park. The bars are
all bent and broken, there is blood and bodies everywhere and Ban is nowhere to be seen. Well, until you turn over the page
to see Ban sploshing blood everywhere as he runs towards where Ginji is saying something I can not understand for the life
of me (but will ask around). Over the tannoy, the guards are ordered to shoot Ban on site. He just keeps on going, bashing
them as he goes, shouting at them to get out of his way, as der Kaiser counts down to 2.
“The control of Mugenjou
and Raitei’s death!! Can der Kaiser’s plan be stopped!?”
